Analogy About Depression
*Depressed and mentally ill for 4 and a half years, recovered for almost 2 years.
Depression, and most mental illnesses are like a downward escalator. It's easy to go down, but going back up is so much harder. It's not impossible, but it takes a lot of effort. If you go too far down the escalator, you probably won't be able to get back up all the way to the top without help. And sometimes you can go up a bunch of steps and you need to take a break, and you might go back down a bit. It takes a lot of work to get back to the top and the further you go the harder it gets to go back up, but it's worth it to go back up. Because at the top is a light, at the top is relief and acceptance and confidence, at the top is peace and contentment, at the top is happiness.
